Audemars Piguet Cord’Or
The Audemars Piguet Cord’Or reference 6050BA is a striking example of the maison’s jewelry-focused watchmaking from the 1980s. Crafted entirely in 18k yellow gold, the design is defined by its beautifully textured integrated bracelet, composed of tightly worked gold with distinctive rope-like detailing. The warm yellow gold dial continues the monochromatic aesthetic, allowing the case and bracelet to read as one continuous piece of gold jewelry. At 24mm x 30mm, it has elegant proportions while still carrying the visual presence of its substantial bracelet.
Excellent vintage condition
Long before integrated bracelets became closely associated with Audemars Piguet’s sport watches, the manufacturer was creating highly imaginative bracelet watches that blurred the distinction between horology and fine jewelry. The Cord’Or, whose name translates roughly to “cord of gold,” belongs to this more decorative side of Audemars Piguet’s history.
The bracelet is the defining element of reference 6050BA. Rather than conventional links, the gold is worked into a richly textured construction with twisted rope motifs running along the bracelet, giving it the appearance and movement of woven gold cord. The rectangular case emerges naturally from this construction, making the watch feel designed as a complete object rather than as a separate case attached to a bracelet.
That same restraint carries through to the dial. Rendered in yellow gold to match the case and bracelet, it creates a sophisticated tone-on-tone composition that places the emphasis on texture, proportion, and goldwork rather than traditional dial ornamentation. A quartz movement allows the case to remain slim and unobtrusive within the broader bracelet design.
Preserved in excellent vintage condition, this Audemars Piguet Cord’Or is a beautiful representation of the maison’s less conventional design language. The combination of its integrated rope-detailed bracelet, monochromatic gold construction, and understated rectangular case makes it feel as much like a piece of vintage gold jewelry as a watch- a particularly elegant expression of Audemars Piguet beyond its better-known sport models.
