Patek 4754

The Patek Philippe reference 4754 is an extraordinary example of the maison’s high-jewelry watchmaking from the 1980s. Crafted in 18k yellow gold, this 21mm watch combines a warm gold dial with a brilliant diamond-set surround, while cabochon rubies positioned at 12 and 6 o’clock introduce a striking flash of color. Description

While Patek Philippe is best known for its complicated watches and classical dress pieces, the maison also has a remarkable history of creating highly elaborate women’s jewelry watches. Particularly during the second half of the 20th century, Patek experimented with precious stones, unusual bracelet constructions, and designs in which the watch became almost indistinguishable from the jewel surrounding it.

Reference 4754 is a particularly beautiful expression of this approach. At the center is a restrained yellow gold dial accented with diamond hour markers, providing a subtle foundation for the much more elaborate gem setting surrounding it. A generous border of brilliant-cut diamonds frames the oval case, creating a luminous contrast against the warmth of the yellow gold.

The most distinctive details are the two cabochon rubies positioned above and below the case. Their saturated red color provides an unexpected focal point within the otherwise gold-and-diamond composition. Rather than being confined to the dial or bezel, the gemstones become part of the architecture connecting the watch head to its bracelet.

That attention to detail continues into the integrated 18k yellow gold bracelet, where diamond-set elements are incorporated directly into the multi-row construction. The bracelet has a wonderfully fluid, jewelry-like quality, allowing the diamonds and polished gold to continue down the wrist rather than concentrating all of the ornamentation around the case.

Powered by a quartz movement, the reference 4754 maintains the slim proportions necessary for such a delicate jewelry design. The movement effectively disappears within the composition, leaving the goldwork, gemstones, and overall silhouette to define the piece.

Preserved in excellent vintage condition and accompanied by a Patek Philippe Extract from the Archives and service records, this reference 4754 is an exceptional example of the maison’s jewelry watchmaking. With its diamond-framed oval case, cabochon ruby accents, diamond-set gold dial, and intricate integrated bracelet, it captures a glamorous and less commonly seen side of Patek Philippe- one in which fine watchmaking and high jewelry become a single, beautifully resolved design.
