Piaget Curb Link Bracelet

The Piaget reference 1001 N10 is a wonderfully unconventional example of the maison’s 1960s jewelry watchmaking, designed almost entirely around its miniature 18k yellow gold curb-link bracelet. Measuring just 9mm across, the watch case is precisely integrated into the width of the chain, allowing it to nearly disappear into the bracelet when worn. The matching yellow gold dial further enhances this seamless effect, creating a piece that reads first as fine jewelry and only upon closer inspection reveals itself as a mechanical Piaget watch.

Description

The 1960s were an especially creative period for Piaget, when the maison increasingly approached the wristwatch as an object of jewelry and design. Rather than treating the bracelet simply as a means of securing a watch to the wrist, Piaget developed pieces in which the bracelet dictated the entire composition. Reference 1001 N10 is a particularly charming expression of this philosophy, reducing the watch itself to almost miniature proportions within a substantial gold chain.

Its defining feature is the 18k yellow gold curb-link bracelet, constructed from bold interlocking links that give the piece the presence of a classic gold chain. The tiny 9mm case was designed to correspond with the width of the bracelet, creating an unusually cohesive silhouette with virtually no visual interruption between watch and jewelry. The gold-tone dial continues the monochromatic design, allowing the time display to remain deliberately discreet.

Despite its diminutive dimensions, the watch remains entirely mechanical. The reference houses Piaget’s manual-wind caliber 2P, with the winding mechanism positioned at the back of the case, a clever solution that preserves the uninterrupted lines of such a narrow design.

Preserved in excellent vintage condition and accompanied by its box and papers, this Piaget reference 1001 N10 is an especially compelling example of the maison’s ability to make a watch almost disappear into a piece of jewelry. Its miniature scale, integrated curb-link construction, and mechanical movement capture the ingenuity and playfulness of Piaget’s mid-century design at its best.
